Job Description

JOB SPECIFICATION

Service Engineer

Location: Watford, with travel to customers’ sites

Role

Our client is a manufacturer of premium uPVC and aluminium glazing solutions based in Watford and is seeking an experienced Service Engineer to join their after-sales team. This is a varied opportunity for a practical, customer-focused window and door professional who enjoys solving problems and takes pride in delivering high-quality repairs and aftercare.

Key responsibilities

  • Inspect aluminium windows and doors, diagnose faults and determine the repairs or adjustments required.
  • Realign and adjust window sashes and door leaves to restore smooth operation, correct closing and secure locking.
  • Repair or replace faulty hinges, handles, locks, locking mechanisms, keeps, rollers and associated hardware.
  • Investigate draughts, water ingress and sealing problems, replacing gaskets or seals and carrying out appropriate remedial work.
  • Carry out glazing repairs and replace damaged or failed sealed units where required.
  • Identify and measure replacement glass and components, providing accurate details to the after-sales team for ordering.
  • Liaise professionally with clients throughout service visits, explaining findings, repairs and any follow-up required, and treating their property with care.
  • Produce clear, detailed written reports of each visit, documenting findings, the diagnosed fault and likely cause, work completed, parts required, recommended actions and outstanding issues, supported by photographs where appropriate.
  • Work closely with the After Sales Manager and wider after-sales team, providing progress updates, confirming parts requirements and coordinating further remedial work.
  • Maintain a safe, tidy work area, use tools and equipment correctly, follow appropriate lifting and glass-handling procedures, and look after the company van.

Skills and experience

  • Practical experience with aluminium windows and doors, including installation, servicing or remedial repairs.
  • Sound knowledge of window and door hardware, with the ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs independently.
  • Knowledge of AluK or Cortizo systems would be beneficial.
  • Strong report-writing skills, with the ability to record technical findings accurately and explain them clearly to customers and the after-sales team.
  • An organised, reliable approach, attention to detail and confidence using hand and power tools.
  • A full driving licence is required.
